Poem–A Search for Healing in So Much Sorrow: Writing 201:Poetry: Future

Reworked for Writing 201: Poetry: Future

A Search for Healing in So Much Sorrow

The light both rises and falls on hopes horizon

So much sorrow and too little truth,

Need with so much greed

Sometimes I mourn for these sad days. These troubled times and the human race

My Big Dawg ‘Bruce Springsteen’ playing on the radio

Singing about ‘Devils and Dust.’

I write of broken hearted rust

In a search for healing I

Find revival in songwriters’ words we are

‘Born to Run’ from ‘Devils and Dust’

Find spark from song and the

Common ground of the common man

With a ‘Boss’ who lives truth from ‘E Street’

To Main Street

In stories of real people,  the

Heart of a country

So far removed from mindless spin of zombies

The right that is wrong

Sometimes you must mourn for the people of this world

All alone together

‘Devils and Dust’ filling our souls

Tough to breath…

The Winter Dance

I reworked this a bit an feel this has a better presentation and feel.

Captain Ken's Cloud

The Winter Dance

We head out onto the snow-covered frozen lake with darkening skies on the horizon.

The golden retrievers excited at getting out for the daily nature excursion.

Northwest winds, cold and cloud do not dampen our enthusiasm as a change of weather, a collision of fronts low and high fascinate on a piece of the earth that we inhabit together and alone in our exploration.

Just as we reached the far shore the dark clouds opened, shearing winds broke free.

First snow then snow squalls in wind-blown gust engulfed us in a dancing natural whiteout of changing weather and temperature.

Turn to get the wind with us as we head back toward the warm shelter of home.

Stopped in awe at the beautiful and wild chaos moving all around Snow devils jumped up everywhere and moved to gusty rhythms in wild dances Spins swirls to and fro in…

The Touch of Winter

Captain Ken's Cloud

A paintbrush of white dusts the landscape in crystal celebration of the season. A paintbrush of white dusts the landscape in crystal celebration of the season.

The Touch of winter
A Crystal water caress of snow
The sunny silence of a cold winter day shines in a new coat
Icy wind crystallizes dreams of warmth
A dusting that covers the ice surface
A country skating rink marks a spot where the shore kisses a hill
Near a lake inlet which drains from frosted wetland
A wondrous place in natural flux of seasonal changes
A sacred place where giant granite boulders hold sway against manmade hand and the storms of nature
Mark the passing of glaciers past
The tick of a wall clocks seconds break the silence
The only reminder that this perfect land at waters’ edge has been touched by human
Dreams of ownership
Nothing but a single frozen vaporous breath or a seconds tick
In this lands grand timelessness
Yet winters icy…

Only Those Hands-A tribute for Mothers day

Happy Mother’s Day. Every day is mother’s day.

Captain Ken's Cloud

Only those hands

Only those hands fed eleven, made a million meals, and kept a home clean and organized

Only those hands washed, dried, folded, and sorted the clothes

Only those hands signaled firmly when we were out of line

Only those hands wiped away tears, hurts, and fears

With strength, without weakening or whisper of complaint

Only those hands encouraged and held our dreams

Now those shaking hands turn the pages of the novels that keep a mind sharp

Mother, Mama, Mom, Ma, Betty Boop

Lived in the moment and made them all count. Early on she learned to be strong for her brothers, sisters and mom because her dad was away at war

Each moment connected in a life of constructive acts of selflessness

Each of us shaped by her focus

She remains the heart and foundation of a family

Only those hands are shaking now as…

Tupelo Music Hall, Londonderry N.H. Review

I have had the perfect job for a music lover. Live music is truth. This livelong traveler on a quest for truth is a fortunate son of the universe.

Ana PopovicThe Tupelo Music Hall –Review by Ken Pothier

Listen as they play–Play as you listen.
The music menu at the Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry, NH is varied and delightful. It induces dancing, toe tapping, hand clapping and conversation. It is Americana, a cross–section of the heart of our country in which truth and light exude from the music. You cannot help but be moved by the sound and lyrics. The ‘live’ professional tight yet loose feel which is produced by musicians and artists that are at their best because they are doing what they love in front of an audience that understand and feel that spirit and joy. The Tupelo has fine acoustics in a cozy atmosphere. The musicians can see each face and feel the energy in a give and take that is missing in larger venues.
You want to call your friends and tell them something is…

The Diner

Yesterday I stopped in at my favorite diner. They have opened another one in Windham NH. I suggest that if you ever get a chance to visit. Diners are microcosms of life and snapshots of communication and connection in real time. The seasons change but I can always enter the past in the present at Mary Ann’s Diner

Mary Ann’s Diner

The Diner

I egress to an overnight frost, perhaps the last of this season. A different road is taken this early morn under cloudy sky. The rise and fall of hills–twists and turns of a never straightforward road. I pass old farms and churches’ spires. They mark time and my passing on the road to Mary Ann’s Diner and Family Restaurant. It is done up 50’s style. Choice of booths, tables for two and four squeeze in six in a pinch. The counter for single lonely souls lost in a paper, a cigarette, a dream. TV is on but no sound and here no one cares for that kind of news. The music here is fifties and sixties oldies played back to back in an endless flow from past memory to present thought, noninvasive in a subtle and seamless meld of years. I sit with the…
